Cognex In-Sight Vision Sensors Selected by NEXUS Biosystems
NATICK, MA, November 19, 2007--Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) announced today that NEXUS Biosystems, a developer of automation systems for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, will integrate Cognex’s In-Sight® 5603 vision sensor into its Universal Store® system. The Universal Store is an automated system used in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries for managing hundreds of thousands to millions of laboratory samples and compounds.
The In-Sight vision sensors will be used to read data matrix codes etched on each sample vial. The codes enable the Universal Store system to automatically store and then retrieve individual vials when those samples are required for testing.
“We selected In-Sight for this application because speed and accuracy are critical,” said John Lillig, President and CEO of NEXUS Biosystems. “In-Sight can read an entire tray of up to 96 vials at once with 100 percent accuracy, which enables us to facilitate quick identification, storage and retrieval of large quantities of samples.”
“This is a significant win for Cognex for two important reasons,” said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Chairman and CEO of Cognex. “First, because of its size.... we expect bookings to total near the mid-six figures...and second, because the application represents an entirely new and very promising market for Cognex vision.”
Cognex In-Sight 5600 series vision sensors are the fastest on the market, helping manufacturers achieve significant improvements in productivity, quality and cost reduction. The 5603 model adds the highest resolution (1600 X 1200 pixels) available in the In-Sight product line, and offers a full library of vision tools for guidance, inspection, gauging, as well as identification.
