Cognex Introduces SmartSystem for Seamless Integration of Web Monitoring & Surface Inspection

Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) today launched SmartSystem™, a powerful software system that provides seamless integration of the SmartAdvisor™ web monitoring system with SmartView® surface inspection systems. SmartSystem can be used in either new line installations or easily retrofitted to existing production lines.

SmartSystem is the next generation of complete process vision solutions from Cognex. By leveraging the industry-leading power of SmartAdvisor for web monitoring and SmartView for web inspection into one scalable package, Cognex provides customers with a comprehensive window into their entire process. SmartSystem maximizes ROI by coupling integrated visual information with the paper industry’s most advanced suite of post-processing controls for winders, slitters, coaters, supercalenders and cutters.

“The SmartSystem product launch brings us another step closer to our vision and compliments our tradition of bringing value to our customers,” said Tom Nash, President, Cognex Surface Inspection Systems Division. “Our focus is to provide our customers with a scalable portfolio of tools to improve quality, achieve gains in production yields and allow our customers to attain the fastest return on investment.”

SmartSystem brings these key line processes together:

Complete Process Vision
The flexible front-end of the SmartSystem design ensures that the complete papermaking process from headbox to reel can be evaluated using best fit camera technology. By layering the process with vision, operators and engineers can quickly determine the root cause of defects and identify process upsets.

Complete Process Optimization
SmartSystem includes numerous post-processing modules that can feed forward visual information to downstream processes for active process control. The SmartSystem solution can be scaled up to provide synchronized vision and process control across the entire papermaking value chain.

Complete Process Synchronization
Line synchronization technology, patented by Cognex, enables customers to link various value-added processes together into one optimized and completely visualized process flow.
