Tire DOT Code Reading

Use 3D vision to overcome low or no contrast environments and read alphanumeric codes

Challenge:

Successfully read code information on tires and verify the correct tire is sent where it's supposed to go.

Solution:

A DS1000 displacement sensor was installed to extract the DOT code off each tire. Since there is a height different between the DOT code itself and the sidewall of the tire, the DS1000 Series is able to convert the height information into a greyscale image from which the code can be easily read.

Results:

Tires processing was successfully automated, resulting in less time spent on verifying tire codes. Manual inspections were drastically reduced as was the incidence of incorrect tires being placed on the wrong car model.
