Automotive Factory Ethernet Networks Easily Integrate DataMan Industrial Handheld ID Readers
A large automotive supplier was using conventional handheld barcode readers to read direct part mark (DPM) Data Matrix codes on motor blocks and cranks. These barcode scanners were connected to their Enterprise network via non-industrial RS-232 conversion boxes that were unreliable with high failure rates.
With the introduction of the DataMan 8500 industrial handheld ID reader featuring Ethernet connectivity, the manufacturer was able to directly connect the reader to their network, simplifying integration by removing the RS-232 conversion boxes. Installation went extremely well and setup was completed in under one hour, including some data validation and formatting.
The simplification and cost savings associated with eliminating the conversion box justified upgrading every handheld ID reader in the facility.
