McKesson Packaging uses Cognex vision software for packaging and print quality inspection to keep up with FDA directives. The system, customized by Micron PharmaWorks Inc. is an addition to a pre-existing inspection system for the actual pills themselves. Its purpose is to increase the quality control of blister packs for McKesson Packaging. Cognex is performing several functions: looking for either a lack of, or excessive print, verifying bar codes, and searching for any deviations from an example provided. Cognex was able to supply a training mechanism that stores an exemplary image into the system that all other images are judged upon. This inspection system is replacing work that was previously done manually.
