The Smallest Objects Can Make the Biggest Difference in Product Quality

They say it’s the little things that make the biggest impact on overall product quality. This is never truer than in the case of my customer Rommel GmbH in Germany.

Rommel makes printed circuit boards which contain small control components that can have a major impact on the performance of the finished product. So as you can well imagine, no errors or mix-ups may be allowed to occur in the manufacturing process.

They use lasered Data Matrix codes to ensure that their PCBs are produced without errors. Their laser marking system uses an innovative laser scan head that features a moving deflection mirror, CO₂ lasers and the In-Sight vision system to reach its precision goals.

The In-Sight vision system measures the board, reads the codes and inscriptions, and evaluates their quality perfectly in fractions of a second. The images and data that the vision system captures are easily handled using In-Sight Explorer software and the extensive library of proven vision tools. In addition, the rugged design of the vision system itself easily handles the stress and challenges of the production line.
