Barcode Scanning and The WMS

The WMS or Warehouse Management System is a sophisticated software package that manages the materials that move through the warehouse. The system is linked to the order management system or ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and creates the pick lists and prints labels that are attached to the boxes or totes.

The data that the WMS needs to monitor the flow of material is transferred through RFID readers, barcode scanners, remote terminals or other computer programs. Efficient and reliable barcode reading is tantamount in making sure that the WMS is managing the processes with optimal efficiency—saving time and money for the DC (Distribution Center).
