What is the PatMax tool and why does it work

Cognex’s PatMax tool is a critically important tool that solves a wide range of machine vision applications.
PatMax is pattern-based search technology that differs from other pattern-location technologies in that it is not based on pixel grid representations that cannot be efficiently and accurately rotated or scaled. Rather, it uses tables of feature-based representations that can be transformed quickly and accurately for pattern matching.
PatMax more closely resembles the way humans discern between similar things and recognize familiar ones.
Consider the examples of remembering the faces of people. Even if the faces change due to lighting, extra features, and less features, you will still likely recognize them if there is enough of the original detail intact.
